He grew quickly and actively participated in the second world war by running in the opposite direction. Reading his compass upside down, he wound up in Germany. However, the authorities there questioned his poor mastery of the German language and refused to issue him a dealers license. It was probably for the best because those military vehicles, in their drab colors, didn't sell well anyway.
In 1948 Sam immigrated to Canada with
his parents and received his education at Kirkland Lake, Ontario and soon
became an over-qualified construction worker with a pilots license, a
degree in engineering and a welders certificate. However, the car business
was in his blood and after a brief stint at teaching, he opened his first
car lot in Walkerton, Ontario.
Shortly thereafter, in the spring of 1978, Ontario entered the great depression. Sam escaped, with Pauline and their meagher belongings, in a bus being pursued by a flock of beurocrats with sharpened pencils, trying to collect the sales tax from his liquidation auction. They were headed for the mountains, but the bus broke down in Saskatchewan and they were forced to homestead near Prince Albert. Unable to convince the provincial government that his treaty rights, guaranteed by his Latvian ancestry, entitled him to a land allotment, Sam finally secured the present business property by paying a monthly bribe to the bank.
In the early years of the bodyshop, there were frequent mistakes in color match and incorrect assembly of parts, but those hurdles were soon overcome and the business thrived and gained momentum.
( This is a photo of one small mistake we made in the early years of the autobody shop. But we soon fixed the mismatched paint job and the car is now for sale...just think, 2 motors, 2 trannies, drives either direction and it could be all yours for only $1,200 ).
Today there are six full-time employees and eighty two part-time staff. Sun Auto Sales has been at the same location for more than twenty years, but don't call them between July 15 and August 15 as they go fishing and the answering machine is in charge of all the sales.

Sam - The company president, top dog, man in charge and the boss who is always hard at work ....

Terry - The autobody guru extraordinaire with 35 years of experience in getting high on paint fumes.
Mavis - The sexy blonde, or brunette, or redhead that answers the phone and runs the office and pretends to be the boss.
Dean - Mean Dean is our main chop-shop go and get'em parts guy. Just don't ask to borrow his tools !!
Two - Our larger than life rotweiller is named TWO for a reason. He's a lean mean eating machine - just right for guarding the yard.

Our Location and Business Hours
Our Location We are located just south of the city of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, on highway #2, right beside The Floor Store. Our mailing address is: Sun Auto Sales and Body Shop RR 2, Site 4, Box 133 Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada S6V 5P9
Business Hours We are open most days, usually about 8 or 9 am and occasionally as early as 7 am, but some days as late as 12 or 1. We close about 5:30 or 6 pm, occassionally about 4 or 5 pm, but sometimes as late as 11 or 12. There are days or afternoons when we aren't here at all and lately it seems we've been here just about all the time... except when we're someplace else, but we probably should have been here then too.
MOST of the time we are open Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Sam Stanga, the president of Hanover Holdings Co. Ltd., was born to
a Russian mafia member in Latvia on a hot summer night in 1943. His mother
soon realized his sales potential when he was ejected from the hospital,
only two days after he was born, for trying to sell his soother to the
newborn in the Crib beside him. 
While
there he managed to survive the Walkerton tainted water scandal since at
that period in his life there were better things to drink than water. It
was also there that Sam met his present wife, Pauline, at a social but
